Welcome!

Dear Parents,

I would like to personally welcome you all to grade 1 English! I am very excited to be teaching grade 1 this year.

I created my blogs last year when I taught grade 3 & 4 to help parents be aware of what was going on in the English classroom and to make communication easier for homework (I understand that agendas get left behind, pages become torn, students' handwriting is hard to read, or you open up to a blank page). If you have questions at any time about the assignments given, please feel free to check this page or email me at jenniferslkbali@gmail.com. I will do my best to respond within 24 hours.

Below is the cover page of the homework I sent home with your child today, August 4. I believe that it would be best to keep homework in a business file so that we can be the most organized. Please put the packet in a business file this week and send the completed homework in the business file into school with your child next Tuesday, August 11th. I will place any new assignments in that folder along the graded packets when they are done.

Welcome to Grade 1!

I am excited for your learning this year. As part of the learning process, you are expected to practice the skills taught in class at home with as little assistance as possible.

The pages in this packet are to be completed and turned in to me on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. You will have a spelling, reading, and grammar quiz on the words in this packet on Tuesday as well. I recommend doing 1-2 practice pages every night.

You are also required to read (any book of your choice) for a minimum of 15 minutes, 3 times per week. Please have an adult initial in the boxes on the days you read in the table on the backside of this sheet.

Beginning next week, I will be making two separate homework packets. One will be for students who would like an extra challenge (for example, spelling and vocabulary words will be more difficult). It is a voluntary group and will not affect the report card in any way. All students will still take the same mid-year and end-of-the-year tests. It is simply for those students who would like to be challenged further. Please write in your student’s agenda if you would like your child to be a part of this group by Thursday, August 7, 2014.

Happy Learning!

Miss Jennifer
